ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention relates to cortain new 1-azolyl-4-hydroxy-butane de- rivatives, to a process for their preparation and to their use as fungicides and bactericides. The new compounds correspond to the general formula Image (I) in which R represents hydrogen or an acyl radical -CO-R1 or a grouping -SO2-R2 in which R1 represents optionally substituted alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, optionally substitued phenyl, optionally substituted phenoxyalkyl, option- ally substituted phenylalkyl, cycloalkyl, alkylamino, dialkylamino or op- tionally substituted phenylamino and R2 represents alkyl of optionally sub- situted phenyl; A represents a keto group or a CH(OH) grouping; X represents hydrogen or the -OR grouping; wherein R has the abovementioned meaning; X1 represents alkyl or optionally substituted phenyl; Y represents the CH group or a nitrogen atom; 2 represents halogen, alkyl, halogenolkyl, cycloalkyl, alkoxy, alkylthio, alkoxycarbonyl, optionally substituted phenyl, optionally substituted phenoxy, optionally substituted phenylalkyl, amino, cyano or nitro ; and n represents 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5, and their salts. The compounds can be prepared by reacting of a 1-Brom-4-(R-oxy)butan-2-one with an azole in the presence of a diluent and of an acid-binding agent and, if appropri- ate, the azolylketone thereby obtained is selectively reduced. The active compounds according to the invention have a broad spectrum of action and can especially be used against such parasitic fungi and bacteria which attack above-ground parts of plants.
