ABSTRACT Disclosed are 1-hydroxy-1-(substituted)aryl carboximidates of the formula: (XXII) Image wherein R2 is (C1-C3)alkyl; and R7 is Image , or Image ; in which V is fluoro; V1 is benzyloxy, chloro, phenoxy, nitro or trifluoromethyl; V is benzyloxy, phenoxy, nitro or trifluoromethyl; V3 is methyl, (C1-C2)alkoxy, methylthio, chloro, or fluoro; V4 and V5 are each independently hydrogen, methyl, bromo, chloro, fluoro, cyano, nitro or trifluoromethyl; with the proviso that when V3 is methoxy or chloro, at least one of V4 or V5 is other than hydrogen; Y is hydrogen, methyl, benzyloxy, (C1-C2)alkoxy, chloro, bromo or fluoro; Y is hydrogen or methoxy; and Y2 is fluoro or chloro, useful as an intermediate for preparing 5(substituted)aryl derivatives of oxazolidine-2,4-dione having utility as hypoglycemic agents, and a process for preparing the carboximidates.
