ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This invention is directed to new 1-methyl-2-(phenyl- oxymethyl)-5-nitro-imidazoles of the formula I IMG> (I) wherein R1, R2 and R3 can be identical or different and represent hydrogen, straight-chain or branched alkyl having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, or wherein R1 and R2 as alkylene chain, together with the nitrogen and carbon atom of the amidino group, are con- stituents of a pyrrolidine, piperidine or hexamethylene-imine ring, or wherein R2 and R3 as alkylene chain together with the nitrogen atom of the ammidino group, are constituents of a pyrrolidine, ppiperidine, morpholine or thiomorphiline ring, and the salts thereof with physiologically tolerable acids; and to a process for their preperation. The new compounds are suitable for the treatment of protozoal diseases.
