ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Novel 2-aza-steroids of the general formula Image wherein R is an alkyl radical containing 1 to 7 carbon atoms or a cycloalkyl group containing 4 to 8 carbon atoms; R' is an alkyl radical containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms; and X is carbonyl or .beta.-hydroxymethylene are prepared by reacting a compound of the general formula Image with a dehydrogenating agent. When the corresponding ketone derivative of the above hydroxy compound is desired, the hydroxy compound is oxidized with sulfur trioxide. These novel steroids are valuable pharmacological agents as shown by their anti-viral activity and hypolipemic activity.
