Abstract of the Disclosure This invention relates to eburnamenine-derivatives and pharmaceuti- cally acceptable acid addition and quaternary salts thereof of the general formula I Image I wherein R represents a hydrogen atom or an acyl group, preferably a C1-15 alkylcarbonyl, C2-5 alkenylcarbonyl, or a phenyl-(C1-5)-alkylcarobnyl group or a benzoyl group optionally substituted with halogen, trihalomethyl, C1-4 alkoxy or nitro. These compounds are useful due to their beneficial effect on the heart in particular they exhibit a vasotropic effect. This effect can be observed in the vasodilatation, in the blood pressure variation and in the change of the pulse rate. They are prepared by reducing apovincine followed by conversion reactions where necessary.
