ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This invention relates to a process for preparing a compound of the formula Image (I) wherein the five membered ring P represents one of the following groups Image Image Image (a) (b) (c) wherein R and R1 are independently hydrogen, or a protecting group of the hydroxy function selected from alkanoyl of 2 to 5 carbons, benzoyl and tetra- hydropyran-2-yl. The symbol A represents a group -CH2-CH2- or cis -CH=CH-; The symbol R2 represents hydrogen, alkyl of 1 to 6 carbon atoms or a cation. The symbol B represents: (a) a group -X-R3 wherein X is selected from O, S, and NH, and R3 is a straight or branched alkyl of 1 to 7 carbon, a group phenyl-(CH2)n-, a group substituted phenyl-(CH2)n-, wherein n is an integer from 0 to 4. (b) a group -W-R3 wherein R3 has the same meaning as before and W is selected from Image , Image , Image , Image ,-(CH2)m-X-, Image , Image and Image wherein R4 and R5 are inde- pendently hydrogen or alkyl of 1 to 6 carbon atoms, m is an integer from 1 to 3 and X has the same meaning as above, which comprises reacting a compound of the formula.
