18,19-dinor-vitamin D3 analogs in which the angular methyl group attached to carbon 13 of the CD-ring and the exocyclic methylene group attached to carbon 10 of the A-ring have been removed and replaced by a hydrogen atom. The 18,19- dinor vitamin D compounds are characterized by relatively high cell differentiation activity, and marked intestinal calcium transport activity while exhibiting lower activity than 1.alpha.,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 in their ability to mobilize calcium from bone. These compounds would be useful for the treatment of diseases where bone formation is desired, such as osteoporosis, because of their preferential calcemic activity, and for the treatment of psoriasis due to their cell differentiation activity.

L'invention concerne des analogues du type 18,19-dinor-vitamine D¿3? dans lesquels le groupe méthyle angulaire fixé au carbone 13 du noyau CD et le groupe méthylène exocyclique fixé au carbone 10 du noyau A ont été enlevés et remplacés par un atome d'hydrogène. Les composés du type 18,19-dinor vitamine D sont caractérisés par un effet relativement important sur la différentiation cellulaire et par une activité marquée de transporteur du calcium au niveau de l'intestin, tout en ayant une capacité moindre de mobiliser le calcium du squelette que la 1.alpha.,25-dihydroxyvitamine D¿3?. On s'attend à ce que ces produits soient utiles pour le traitement de maladies lorsqu'on souhaite promouvoir la formation osseuse, comme par exemple dans le cas de l'ostéoporose, à cause de leur activité sélective sur le métabolisme du calcium et pour le traitement du psoriasis à cause de leur effet sur la différentiation des cellules.
