Abstract of the disclosure 2,3,4-Trifluoro-N-ethylaniline and process for the preparation thereof The present invention relates to the compound 2,3,4-tri- fluoro-N-ethylaniline and to a process for the prepa- ration thereof. 2,3,4-Trifluoro-N-ethylaniline is prepared by reducing 1 mol of 2,3,4-trifluoronitrobenzene with hydrogen in an organic solvent which is inert towards the reactants and under the reaction conditions as diluent in the presence of a modified nickel or noble metal catalyst and a buffer material at temperatures of from about 80°C to about 120°C at pH values of from about 7 to 10 at atmospheric pressure or increased pressure to form 2,3,4-trifluoro- aniline and subsequently subjecting this, through addi- tion of from 1 to about 1.5 mol of acetaldehyde, based on the 2,3,4-trifluoroaniline formed, with or without an inert organic solvent as diluent, to reductive alkylation with hydrogen at temperatures of from about 40°C to about 100°C.
