2,4,8-TRISUBSTITUTED-3H,6H-1,4,5a,8a- TETRAAZAACENAPHTHYLENE-3,5-(4H)-DIONES ABSTRACT OF THE INVENTION Novel 2,4,8-trisubstituted-3H,6H-1,4,5a,8a-tetra- azaacenaphthylene-3,5-(4H)-diones are disclosed which are useful antihypertensive and anxiolytic agents. These are compounds of the formula Image or pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof wherein R1 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, alkyl having from 1 to 10 carbon atoms, carboxamidomethyl, 4-chlorophenyl, benzyl and (4-nitrophenyl)methyl; R2 and R3 are hydrogen or alkyl having from 1 to 3 carbon atoms; R4 is 3-pyridinyl or Image where R6 and R7 may be the same or different and are selected from hydrogen, halogen, alkyl having from 1 to 3 carbon atoms, alkoxy having from 1 to 3 carbon atoms, N-alkyl-N-acylamino where both alkyl and acyl have from 1 to 3 carbon atoms, nitro, and 61109-7836 trifluoromethyl and where halogen is selected from chlorine, fluorine, bromine and iodine; P5 is hydrogen or alkyl having from 1 to 10 carbon atoms; and A-B is -C=C-R3- or Image .
