ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This invention provides 2,4-diamino-5-benzyl- pyrimidines represented by the formula Image wherein R1 is H or loweralkyl; R2 is H, loweralkyl or R3CO- wherein R3 is H or alkyl; and X is a halogen; and the acid addition salts thereof. These pyrimidine compounds are useful as antibacterial agents, and as potentiators of the anti- bacterial activity of sulfonamides.
