ABSTRACT 2,6-Dialkoxy-3-(.alpha.-alkoxybenzy1)tetrahydropyrans of the formula Image where R1, R2 and R3 independently are hydrogen or a substituent selected from the group consisting of halo, lower-alkyl, phenyl, carboxy, lower- alkoxycarbonyl, phonoxycarbonyl, amino-carbonyl, hydroxysulfonyl, nitro, cyano, hydroxy, lower-alkoxy and phenoxy, and R4 and R5 independently are alkyl of one to four carbon atoms, which are intermediates for the preparation of certain benzylideneglutaraldehyde disinfectants are disclosed.
