Disclosed are a novel 2,6-diaminopyridine compound of the formula (C'): (see formula I)~~~~~ (in which X represents a nitrogen atom, Y represents -CH= or -CR7= [wherein R7 represents a lower alkyl group or a halogen atom], Z represents -CH=, R2a represents a substituted or unsubstituted amino group or an amino group protected by a protective group and R3 represents a hydrogen atom or a halogen atom) and its production process. The 2,6-diaminopyridine compound is useful as an intermediate for producing a dihydro-pyridonecarboxylic acid derivative of the formula: (see formula II) (wherein R2 has the meaning of R2a; R3, X, Y and Z are as given above; R1 is H or carboxyl protective group; R4 is hydrogen or halogen; R5 is halogen or saturated cyclic amino; and R6 is hydrogen, halogen, nitro or amino) which is useful as a pharmaceutical antibacterial agent.
