ABSTRACT 2-Azolylmethyl-3-difluorobenzyloxy-2,3-dihydro- 5- and 6-fluorobenzo[b]thiophen antifungal compounds, especially 2-(lH-imidazolylmethyl-3-(2',6'- difluorobenzyloxy)-2,3-dihydro-5-fluorobenzo[b]thiophene, pharmaceutical compositions containing them and their use in treating fungal infections in animals including humans are disclosed. The compounds have the following formula Image wherein Y is imidazolyl, 1,2,4-triazolyl or lower alkyl or aryl substituted derivatives thereof, the aryl being phenyl, halophenyl or lower alkylphenyl, and are in racemic or optically active form.
