The present invention details methods for the treatment of cancer. In particular, it concerns the induction of apoptosis of cancer cells following treatment with methoxyestradiol. 2-Methoxyestradiol (2-MeOE2) increase wild- type p53 levels in a human non-small lung cancer cell lines associated with accumulation of cyclin dependent kinase inhibitor p21WAF1/CIP1. Significant apoptotic cell death occurred after the drug treatment. Thus, 2-MeOE2 facilitates induction of p53-mediated apoptosis.

La présente invention concerne des procédés pour le traitement du cancer. En particulier, elle a pour objet l'induction de l'apoptose des cellules cancéreuses après un traitement par méthoxyestradiol. Le 2-méthoxyestradiol (2-MeOE2) augmente les taux de p53 de type sauvage dans les lignes cellulaires du cancer bronchopulmonaire "non à petites cellules", chez l'homme, associées à l'accumulation d'inhibiteur de la kinase, p21WAF1/CIP1, dépendant de la cycline. Une mort cellulaire programmée significative est observée après le traitement par ce produit. Ainsi, le 2-MeOE2 facilite l'induction de l'apoptose induite par p53.
