ABSTRACT There are described novel 2-imino-imid??olidine derivatives of the general formula Image I wherein R1,R2 and R3 independently of one another each signify hydrogen, alkyl, alkoxy, alkylthio, halogen, trifluoromethyl, cyano or hydroxy and R4 signifies hydrogen, alkyl, cycloalkyl, cycloalkenyl, alkenyl, alkinyl, mono or di-alkylaminoalkyl, carboxyalkyl, carboxyalkenyl, hydroxyalkyl, cyanoalkyl, optionally substituted phenyl alkyl, alkylthioalkyl, alkoxycarbonylalkyl, alkoxy- alkoxyalkyl, aminocarbonylalkyl, monoalkyl- aminocarbonylalkyl, dialkylaminocarbonylalkyl, alkoxycarbonylalkenyl, alkoxyalkyl, aminoalkyl, (2,2,8-trimethyl- 4H-m-dioxino[4,5-c]-pyridin-5-yl)methyl, [5- hydroxy-4-(hydroxymethyl)-6-methyl-3-pyridyl] methyl, .alpha.-carboxybenzyl, .alpha.-alkoxycarbonyl-.alpha. -alkylphenyl or an aromatic heterocyclic residue with one or two hetero-atoms, which is bonded via a -CH(R5)-group and is 5-membered and optionally substituted by alkyl or the group -COOR, or 6-membered and optionally substituted by alkyl, alkoxy or the group _COOR, possible hetero-atoms being oxygen, methyl, ethyl or n-propyl R5 signifying hydrogen, methyl, ethyl or n-propyl and R signifying hydrogen or alkyl, pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts thereof, and processes for their manufacture. Their useful hypotensive activity is also described.
