ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: A new derivative of 2-phenylpropionic acid of the formula Image (I) is obtained by subjecting a corresponding alkyl ester of the formula: Image (IX) wherein R is a lower alkyl radical, to a saponification reaction carried out in the presence of an alkaline or earth-alkaline hydro- xide in a lower alkanol, and subsequent acidification with a mineral acid. The new derivative shows anti-inflammatory, anal- gesic and antipiretic properties.
