Compounds, compositions and methods for treating degenerative diseases and disor ders are disclosed see the compounds below, the compounds having cytoprotective properties and belonging to a class of cyclopentanophenanthrene- related steroids having derivatized estrogen-like structures and conferring cytoprotection witho ut possessing significant feminizing activity, thereby avoiding undesired side-e ffects when therapeutically administered, for example, in the treatment of degen erative disorders including neurodegenerative, ophthalmic, cardiovascular, mitoc hondrial, bone, joint, connective tissue or cartilage disorders, or a disorder a ssociated with altered activity of an excitotoxic pathway, or for use in tissue transplantation, or for other diseases, disorders or conditions.
La présente invention se rapporte à des composés, à des compositions et à des méthodes permettant de traiter des maladies et des troubles dégénératifs. Les composés selon l'invention présentent des propriétés cytoprotectrices et appartiennent à une classe de stéroïdes à base de cyclopentanophénanthrène possédant des structures de type oestrogène dérivatisées et assurant une cytoprotection sans avoir d'activité féminisante importante, ce qui permet d'éviter les effets indésirables lorsqu'ils sont administrés à des fins thérapeutiques, par exemple pour traiter des troubles dégénératifs, notamment des troubles neurodégénératifs, ophtalmiques, cardiovasculaires, mitochondriaux, osseux, articulaires, du tissu conjonctif ou du cartilage, ou des troubles associés à une activité altérée d'une voie excitotoxique, ou pour servir à la transplantation de tissu ou pour traiter d'autres maladies, troubles ou états pathologiques.
