A 2-ethenylthio carbapenem derivative represented by the formula (I) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof. This compound has a potent antibacterial effect and a broad antibacterial spectrum against pneumococci including penicillin-resistant Streptococcus pneumoniae (PRSP), influenza viruses including .beta.-lactamase-non-producing ampicillin-resistant Haemophilus influenzae (BLNAR), Moraxella catarrhalis and the like.
