Compounds of structural formula (I) are modulators of the androgen receptor (AR) in a tissue selective manner. They are useful as agonists of the androgen receptor in bone and/or muscle tissue while antagonizing the AR in the prostate of a male patient or in the uterus of a female patient. These compounds are therefore useful in the enhancement of weakened muscle tone and the treatment of conditions caused by androgen deficiency or which can be ameliorated by androgen administration, including osteoporosis, osteopenia, glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis, periodontal disease, bone fracture, bone damage following bone reconstructive surgery, sarcopenia, frailty, aging skin, male hypogonadism, postmenopausal symptoms in women, atherosclerosis, hypercholesterolemia, hyperlipidemia, obesity, aplastic anemia and other hematopoietic disorders, inflammatory arthritis and joint repair, HIV-wasting, prostate cancer, cancer cachexia, Alzheimer~s disease, muscular dystrophies, cognitive impairment, decreased libido, premature ovarian failure, and autoimmune disease, alone or in combination with other active agents.
L'invention concerne des composés de formule structurelle I du récepteur d'androgène (AR) d'une manière sélective au niveau tissulaire. Ces composés sont utilisés en tant qu'agonistes du récepteur d'androgène dans le tissu osseux et/ou musculaire, tandis qu'ils antagonisent l'androgène dans la prostate d'un patient ou dans l'utérus d'une patiente. Lesdits composés sont donc utilisés, seuls ou en combinaison avec d'autres agents actifs, dans l'amélioration d'un tonus musculaire affaibli et dans le traitement de troubles qui sont provoqués par une déficience en androgène ou qui peuvent être améliorés par l'administration d'androgène, notamment, l'ostéoporose, l'ostéopénie, l'ostéoporose induite par des glucocorticoïdes, une maladie parodontale, une fracture osseuse, une blessure osseuse suivie d'une intervention de chirurgie de reconstruction osseuse, la sarcopénie, la fragilité, le vieillissement cutané, l'hypogonadisme masculin, les symptômes postménopausiques chez la femme, l'athérosclérose, l'hypercholestérolémie, l'hyperlipidémie, l'obésité, l'anémie aplasique et d'autres troubles hématopoïétiques, l'arthrite inflammatoire et la réparation articulatoire, la cachexie du SIDA, le cancer de la prostate, la cachexie du cancer, la maladie d'Alzheimer, les dystrophies musculaires, la déficience cognitive, la diminution de la libido, un trouble ovarien prématuré et une maladie auto-immune.
