ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention as disclosed herein provides compounds of the formula Image wherein R1 is a phenyl group which is either unsubstituted or substituted with a lower alkyl or lower alkoxy group or a halogen atom or is a thienyl or thiazolyl group which is unsubstituted or substituted by an amino or substituted amino group, A is a lower alkylene, lower alkenylene, or lower alkylene group, which is either unsubstituted or substituted by a lower alkyl, amino, lower alkoxyimino or phenyl-Z-group, Z is a single bond, -S-or-SO2-group, R2 is a hydrogen atom, and n = 0 or 1, or a pharmaceutically acceptable non-toxic salt thereof. Said compounds are macrolide antibiotics, having more strongly antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria than known macrolide antibiotics, and are also effective against Gram-negative bacteria.
