ABSTRACT 3,6-Bis(hydroxyethoxy)xanth-9-one is of use in the preparation of improved UV stable linear polyesters, e.g. PET. The polyesters contain in their chain copolymerised bis(hydroxyethoxy)xanth-9- one and are obtained by polymerisation in the presence of a tetrahydroxy benzophenone.
