ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE New 3,7-disubstituted-3-cephem-4-carboxylic acids and salts and their preparation are provided, of the formula: Image (I) wherein R1 is amino or a protected amino group; R2 and R3 are each carboxy or a protected carboxy group; A is lower alkylene R4 is hydrogen, isopropyl, hexyl, lower alkenyl, lower alkynyl or ar(lower)alkyl: and pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof: the new compounds exhibit high antibacterial activity, inhibiting the growth of a wide variety of pathogenic microorganisms including gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.
