3-Aminoazepine compounds of the formula Image (I) wherein Ar is a phenyl or the like; R1 is a hydrogen, an alkyl or the like; R2 and R3 are the same or different and is a hydrogen, an alkyl, a group of the formula -CO-R6 wherein R6 is heteroaryl or the like, a group of the formula -CONH-R7 wherein R7 is phenyl or the like, or the like; R4 is a hydrogen, an alkyl or the like; and X is an oxygen atom or a sulfur atom, and R4 and X are bonded to each other to form a group of the formula : -C(R10)=N-N= where R10 is hydrogen, alkyl or the like, optically active compounds thereof and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof. The compounds of the present invention have CCK antagonistic action and gastrin antagonistic action, and are useful as a therapeutic agent for central nervous diseases such as anxiety and depression, and an agent for the prophylaxis and treatment of pancreatic disorders and gastrointestinal ulcers.
