ABSTRACT This invention relates to novel 3'-demethoxy epipodophyllotoxin glucosides, their use as anti-tumor agents, and pharmaceutical compositions thereof. The specification discloses compounds having the formula Image wherein R2 is hydrogen and R1 is selected from the group consisting of C1-10 alkyl, C2-10 alkenyl, C3-C7 cycloalkyl, furyl, thienyl, pyridyl, pyrrolyl, C6-C10 aryl and C7-C14 aralkyl, said aryl and aralkyl rings optionally bearing one or more substituents selected from halo, C1-C4 alkyl, nitro, hydroxy, C1-C4 alkoxy, C1-C4 alkanoyloxy, cyano, amino, C1-C4 alkylamino, di(C1-C4 alkyl) amino, carboxy, C1-C4 alkylthio, mercapto, C2-C4 alkenoylamino, C2-C4 alkenyl and carbamoyl; or R1 and R2 are each C1-C10 alkyl; or R1 and R2 and the carbon atom to which they are attached join to form a C5-C6 cycloalkyl group.
