A B S T R A C T The novel monomer 3-?N'-(3-halopropyl)-N'- methylamino?-N,N,N-trimethyl-1-proparaminium halide or an acid addition is a useful intermediate for the preparation of poly-? {methyl-(3-trimethylammoniopropyl)imino} trimethylene dihalide?. This latter polymer, especially after modification of terminal groups, is an excellent anticholesterolemic.
