ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This invention relates to novel 3'-(Substituted phenyl)- spiro(isobenzofuran-1(3H),5'(4'H)-isoxazol)-3-ones, of the formula Image wherein X and Y are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, halogen, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, halo-lower-alkyl, phenoxy, phenyl and cyano. As well there is disclosed their method of preparation and their use as herbicides and plant growth regulants, especially for the regulation of soybeans. There is also disclosed the use of the novel compounds as intermediates in the preparation of certain isoxazol-5-yl benzoates which are effective as herbicides and plant growth regulants.
