ABSTRACT Novel 3-trifluoromethyl-4-phenylpyrroles of the formula Image (II) wherein R is halogen, C1-C6-alkyl or C1-C6-haloalkyl, n is 0, 1 or 2, and R1 is hydrogen or the group C(O)R2, in which R2 is C1-C6-alkyl, C1-C6-haloalkyl, phenyl or C1-C6-alkoxy, and a pro- cess for producing thereof are disclosed. The compounds of formula II possess valuable fungicidal properties and are also useful as intermediates for producing fungicidally active 4-phenylpyrrole derivatives.
