ABSTRACT New 3-ureidochromone and 3-ureidothiochromone compounds of the general formula: Image wherein X represents an oxygen or sulphur atom, Y represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl radical containing from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, Z represents a halogen atom, or an alkyl radical containing from 1 to 6 carbon atoms, a cycloalkyl radical containing from 5 to 7 carbon atoms, an alkoxy radical containing from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, or a phenyl radical, n represents zero or an integer 1, 2 or 3, R1 represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl radical containing from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, R2 and R3 are the same or different and each represents a hydrogen atoms or an alkyl radical containing from 1 to 6 carbon atom, an alkoxy radical containing from 1 to 6 carbon atoms, an alkenyl radical containing from 2 to 4 carbon atoms, or an alkynyl radical containing from 2 to 4 carbon atoms, or R2 and R3 together with the nitrogen atom of which they are attached represent a five- or six-membered heterocyclic radical optionally containing, in addition to the nitrogen atoms, a second hetero-atom selected from oxygen and sulphur atoms, are useful as herbicides.
