M-1041 ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE 4-Alkyl-4-aroyl-1-piperidinobutyrophenone derivatives and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof of the following general structure: Image wherein R is hydrogen, alkyl, alkoxy, halogen or trifluoromethyl; R' is hydrogen or halogen; and 2" is alkyl; are useful as antipsychotic agents. The novel compounds are produced by reacting 4-alkyl- 4-aroylpiperidines or salts thereof with 4-halobutyrophenones or by reacting protected 4-alkyl-4-cyano-piperidinobutyrophenones with aryl Grignard reagents and subsequent hydrolysis.
