The present invention is directed to the use of immunomodulatory compounds, particularly members of the class of compounds known as IMiDsTM, and more specifically the compounds 4-(Amino)-2-(2,6-dioxo(3-piperidyl))-isoindoline- 1,3-dione and 3-(4-amino-1-oxo-1,3-dihydroisoindol-2-yl)-piperidine-2,6-dione, to induce the expression of fetal hemoglobin genes, genes essential for erythropoiesis, and genes encoding alpha hemoglobin stabilizing protein, within a population of CD34+ cells. These compounds are used to treat hemoglobinopathies such as sickle cell anemia or .beta.-thalassemia, or anemias caused by disease, surgery, accident, or the introduction or ingestion of toxins, poisons or drugs.
La présente invention concerne utilisation de composer immunomodulateurs, en particulier des éléments de la classe des composés connus comme IMiD<SP>TM </SP>et, plus spécifiquement les composés 4-(Amino)-2-(2,6-dioxo(3-pipéridyle))-isoindoline-1,3-dione et 3-(4-amino-1-oxo-1,3-dihydroisoindol-2-yl)-pipéridine-2,6-dione, destinés à induire l'expression de gènes d'hémoglobine de foetus, de gènes essentiels pour l'érythropoïèse et des gènes codants pour la protéine stabilisant l'hémoglobine alpha, dans une population de cellules CD34+. Ces composés conviennent pour traiter les hémoglobinopathies tels que l'anémie de la drépanocytose, la B-thalassémie ou l'anémie causée par une maladie, une opération chirurgicale, un accident ou par l'introduction ou l'ingestion de toxines, de poisons ou de drogues.
