- 1 - Abstract: The invention provides novel 4-aminobutyric acid derivatives of the formula: Image wherein R1 is a straight or branched alkyl group having 1 to 8 carbon atoms, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof. These novel 4-aminobutyric acid derivatives are useful as medicines for the amelioration of cerebral metabolism or higher brain function disorders. The inven- tion also provides processes for the preparation of these compounds.
