Novel 4-aza-steroid compounds are provided, which have functional groups at one or more of positions 7, 11 and 15, such as hydroxyl or hydroxyl derivative groups. The compounds are active against 5-.alpha.-reductase giving indications of utility in combating prostate cancer. The novel compounds can be prepared by chemo-enzymatic synthesis from easily available 4-aza-steroids.

L'invention concerne de nouveaux 4-azastéroïdes, qui comportent des groupes fonctionnels au niveau d'une ou de plusieurs positions 7, 11 et 15, tels que des groupes hydroxy ou dérivés d'hydroxy. Ces composés sont actifs contre la 5-.alpha.-réductase, ce qui indique qu'ils peuvent être utiles pour lutter contre le cancer de la prostate. Ils peuvent être préparés par synthèse chimio-enzymatique à partir de 4-azastéroïdes faciles à se procurer.
