4-Substituted 5-polycyclylpyrimidine compounds in which the 5-substituent is polycyclic and is attached to the pyrimidine moiety through an aliphatic carbon atom, such as 5-(2,2-dimethylindan-1-yl)-4-methylthiopyrimidine, were prepared and found to possess excellent herbicidal activity. The compounds are especially useful for the control of undesirable vegetation in paddy rice.

On a préparé des composés à base de 5-polycyclylpyrimidine, substitués position 4, et dans lesquels le substituant en position 5 est polycyclique et est fixé à la fraction pyrimidine au moyen d'un atome de carbone aliphatique, tel que 5-(2,2-diméthylindan-1-yl)-4-méthylthiopyrimidine, ces composés s'étant révélés posséder une excellente activité herbicide. Ces composés sont notamment utiles dans la lutte contre la végétation non voulue, dans le riz paddy.
