ABSTRACT Novel compounds of the formula: Image wherein A is an acid-labile hydroxyl-protecting group, Q is ethylene or Z-vinylene and J' is a R-hydroxymethylene radi- cal protected with an acid-labile hydroxyl-protecting group. These compounds are useful as intermediates in the prepara- tion of novel bicycloalkyl derivatives of prostaglandin A, E and F which are useful modifiers of smooth muscle activity.
