ABSTRACT 6-Oxygenated-1,3,4,5-tetrahydrobenz[cd]indol 4-amines having the following structure Image wherein R1 is hydrogen or C1-5alkyl, and R2 and R3 are the same or different and are hydrogen, C1-4alkyl, phenyl(CH2)n where n is 0 to 3, C5-6cycloalkyl, or C3-5 alkenyl are prepared by reductive amination of the corresponding indol-4-ones, or by hydrogenation of 4-nitro-1,3,4,5-tetrahydrobenz[cd]indoles. These compounds are active as serotonin antagonists.
