ABSTRACT ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention as disclosed herein provides )?)-4-substituted-amino-6-substituted-1,3,4,5-tetrahydro- benz[c,d]indoles of the formula Image IV wherein R1 and R2 are individually hydrogen, methyl, ethyl, n-propyl or allyl, and X is F, Cl, Br, CN, CONH2, NH2, NO2, O(C1-C3 alkyl), O-acyl, OH or O-benzyl; and pharmaceutically- acceptable salts thereof. These compounds are central serotonin agonists and are useful as anti-obesity, anti- alcoholism, senile dementia and anti-smoking agents.
