Abstract of the Disclosure Novel compounds of the general formula Image IV wherein R is an alkyl radical containing 1 to 7 carbon atoms or cycloalkyl group containing 4 to 8 carbon atoms are prepared by reacting a compound of the general formula Image V with a compound of the general formula RI wherein R is an alkyl radical containing 1 to 7 carbon atoms or a cycloalkyl group containing 4 to 8 carbon atoms. These 7-aza-6-substit- uted-l-tetralones, for example 7-aza-6-methoxy-1-tetralone, are useful as intermediates in the preparation of novel steroids which have anti-viral activity and hypolipemic activity.
