Abstract of the Disclosure A cephalosporin compound of the formula: Image wherein R1 is hydrogen or hydroxyl, R2 is nitro, alkoxy, alkane- sulfonamido, dialkanesulfonamido, alkylaminosulfonamido, alkyl- ureido or alkylthioureido, R3 is hydrogen or a heterocyclic- thio group (in which the heterocyclic group may be substituted with alkyl), X is free or protected amino and non-toxic, pharma- ceutically acceptable salts and esters thereof provided that R1 is hydroxyl when R2 is nitro or alkoxy and R3 is hydrogen when R1 is hydroxyl and R2 is alkoxy, which is useful as an orally administrable, long acting antibiotic substance and can be produced by coupling the corresponding cephalosporin moiety with the corresponding amino acid moiety.
