Abstract 7-substituted-3,3a,4,5,6,7-hexahydro-3-substituted- 2H-pyrazolo[4.3-a]pyridines of the formula Image wherein R and R3 are X-substituted phenyl, thienyl or pyridyl; R1 and R2 are hydrogen, lower alkyl, X1-substituted phenyl- lower alkyl, hydroxy lower alkyl or lower alkanoyl; X and X are hydrogen, chloro, fluoro, lower alkyl. lower alkoxy or trifluoromethyl: and N-oxides and acid addition salts thereof. The compounds and their N-oxides and acid addition salts thereof are useful as central nervous system depresants in mammals.
