ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Described are 8-ene-19, 11.beta.-bridged steroids of general formula (I) which have a new structural feature in the form of a double bond between the 8 position and the 9 position. Also described is a method of preparing them. The substituents R1, R4-Y, R4'-Y', X and Z are defined in the specification. The new compounds have, in particular, a strong anti-progastational action and are suitable for the preparation of pharmaceutical formulations.
