A biocidal composition useful for providing antifungal or antibacterial protection to a substrate such as wood, the composition comprises in its use form a use solution of pH of 4 or below containing at least one biocide and a source of free phosphite ions. A preferred source of phosphite ions is phosphorous acid. The composition allows deep penetration of a biocide such as copper oxine into where it can be fixed by pH change and confer a degree of protection beyond that hitherto obtained with such a biocide simply applied to the surface of the substrate.

L'invention concerne une composition bioxyde utile pour conférer une protection antifongique ou antibactérienne à un substrat tel que du bois, la composition comprend dans sa forme d'utilisation une solution d'utilisation d'un pH de 4 ou moins contenant au moins un bioxyde et une source d'ions phosphite libres. Une source préférée d'ions phosphite est l'acide phosphoreux. La composition permet une pénétration en profondeur d'un bioxyde tel qu'une oxine-cuivre là où elle peut être fixée par changement du pH et elle confère un degré de protection supérieur à celui atteint à ce jour à l'aide d'un tel bioxyde simplement appliqué sur la surface du substrat.
