A blade scabbard including a safety lock (36, 37) which functions to prevent accidental or inadvertent withdrawal of a blade (27) from a fully inserted position within the scabbard housing (1). The safety lock operates automatically in response to insertion of a blade into the scabbard and is preferably associated with blade sharpening mechanism (19) which is also responsive to movement of a blade into and out of the scabbard housing. The sharpening mechanism is preferably inactive during blade insertion and active during blade withdrawal. Manually operable release means (42) is provided to enable release of the lock for blade withdrawal purposes, and it is necessary to operate the release means while simultaneously withdrawing the blade from the scabbard. The safety lock is fully released after the blade has been withdrawn a distance from the fully inserted position and operation of the release means can then be terminated without hindering further withdrawal of the blade. Blade restraining means (21) coacts with the blade to prevent withdrawal when the safety lock is fully operative, and that restraining means may be pivotally mounted on the scabbard housing, together with the sharpening mechanism, to be pivoted into and out of the operative position.
La présente invention concerne un fourreau de lame muni d'un cran de sûreté (36, 37) destiné à empêcher le retrait par accident ou par inadvertance de la lame (27) lorsqu'elle est totalement engagée dans le logement du fourreau (1). Le dispositif de verrouillage, qui réagit automatiquement à l'introduction de la lame dans le fourreau, est de préférence associé à un aiguiseur de lame (19) qui réagit également aux mouvements d'introduction et de retrait de la lame dans le logement du fourreau. L'aiguiseur est de préférence au repos pendant l'introduction de la lame et opérant pendant le retrait de la lame. Le fourreau est pourvu d'un organe de dégagement (42) actionnable à la main, lequel organe permet de dégager le cran de sûreté pour extraire la lame, l'action sur l'organe de dégagement devant nécessairement être simultanée au retrait de la lame du fourreau. Une fois que la lame a été extraite d'une certaine longueur depuis la position d'engagement total, le cran de sûreté reste complètement dégagé, et dès lors, il n'y a plus à agir sur l'organe de dégagement, et il n'y a plus d'obstacle au retrait de la lame. Un organe de maintien de la lame (21) coopérant avec la lame empêche le retrait lorsque le cran de sûreté est complètement engagé. Cet organe de maintien peut être monté sur pivot sur le logement du fourreau, associé avec l'aiguiseur, de façon à être mis en fonction ou hors fonction par pivotement.
