A device and method of controlling bitrate in video coding of a sequence of frames including series of Inter frames separated by Intra frames, wherein the coded frames are validated in a video buffering device prior to transmission of the coded frames and wherein the method comprises: measuring frame complexity in the sequence of frames; for each Inter frame, calculating a target buffer level of the video buffering device in relation to a distance between the Inter frame and a next Intra frame; for each Inter frame, calculating a target frame size in relation to the distance between the Inter frame and the next Intra frame, the measured frame complexity, a current buffer level of the video buffering device and the calculated target buffer level of the video buffering device; and using the calculated target frame size to control bitrate in video coding of the sequence of frames.
L'invention concerne un dispositif et un procédé pour commander un débit binaire dans le codage vidéo d'une séquence d'images comprenant une série d'inter images séparées par des intra images, les images codées étant validées dans un dispositif de tampon vidéo avant la transmission des images codées, le procédé comprenant : la mesure de complexité d'image dans la séquence d'images; pour chaque inter image, le calcul d'un niveau de tampon cible du dispositif de tampon vidéo en rapport à une distance entre l'inter image et une intra image suivante; pour chaque image codée en Inter, le calcul d'une dimension d'image cible en fonction de la distance entre l'inter image et l'intra image suivante, de la complexité d'image mesurée, d'un niveau de tampon actuel du dispositif de tampon vidéo et du niveau de tampon cible calculé du dispositif de tampon vidéo; et l'utilisation de la dimension d'image cible calculée pour commander le débit binaire dans le codage vidéo de la séquence d'images.
