A composition for the sustained release of a biologically active therapeutic agent wherein the matrix of the sustained release composition is composed of an amorphous carbohydrate glass matrix comprising a suitable carbohydrate and an agent which retards the recrystallization of the carbohydrate and a biologically active therapeutic agent and a water-insoluble wax dispersed throughout the matrix. Biologically active therapeutic agents which can be incorporated into the carbohydrate glass matrix include prolactin, growth hormones, serum albumins, growth factors or any biologically active fragment or recombinant form thereof.
Composition servant à la libération prolongée d'un agent thérapeutique biologiquement actif, dont la matrice est composée d'un glucide transparent amorphe comprenant un glucide approprié et un agent retardant la recristallisation du glucide, ainsi qu'un agent thérapeutique biologiquement actif et une cire insoluble dans l'eau dispersée dans ladite matrice. Les agents thérapeutiques biologiquement actifs pouvant être incorporés dans la matrice en glucide transparent comprennent la prolactine, les hormones de croissance, les albumines sériques, les facteurs de croissance ou tout fragment biologiquement actif ou toute forme recombinante dudit fragment.
