A carvable implant material for use in surgery and especially in plas- tic and reconstructive surgery. At least two layers of porous PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) sheet mate- rial are laminated together by an ad- hesive placed between the adjacent layers of porous PTFE sheet material. Alternatively, a plurality of discrete pieces of porous PTFE may be ad- hered together by an adhesive. The presence of the adhesive provides a significant increase in stiffness and hence in carvability beyond that pos- sible in a single layer of porous PTFE without the adhesive. Preferred ad- hesives are thermoplastic fluoropoly- mers of lower crystalline melt temperature than PTFE, such as FEP or PFA.
La présente invention concerne une matière pour implant modelable destinée à la chirurgie et notamment à la chirurgie plastique et reconstructive. Deux couches au moins de PTFE poreux (polytétrafluoréthylène) stratifiées ensemble par un adhésif déposé entre les couches adjacentes constituées d'une matière en feuille de PTFE poreux. Dans un autre mode de réalisation, une pluralité de morceaux discrets de PTFE poreux peuvent être collés ensemble au moyen d'un adhésif. La présence de l'adhésif confère une rigidité notoirement accrue et par conséquent une modelabilité dépassant ce qui est possible avec une simple couche de PTFE poreux sans adhésif. Les adhésifs préférés sont les fluoropolymères thermoplastiques dont le température de fusion cristalline est inférieure à celle du PTFE, tels que le FEP ou le PFA.
