The invention provides a cleaner head assembly for a vacuum cleaner comprising a cleaner head body (10) pivotably attachable to a main body (102) of a vacuum cleaner (100) and a brush housing (110) pivotably mounted on the cleaner head body(10), the brush housing (110) having a suction opening (112) and a brush bar (26) mounted therein and a resilient member (105), wherein the resilient member (105) is provided to bias the brush housing (110) in a direction of pivoting so as to urge a rear portion of the brush housing (110) in an upward direction with respect to the cleaner head body (10). The arrangement allows the brush housing (110) to be doubly articulated with respect to the main body of the vacuum cleaner (100) whilst biased by the resilient member (105) in a direction of pivoting such that the rear portion of the brush housing (110) is urged in an upward direction with respect to the cleaner head body (10) so that the suction opening (112) remains in a horizontal plane.
