Described herein is the isolation of colicin-producing strains of E. coli for use as probiotic treatments for the prevention of E. coli K88+ diarrhea. These strains of E. coli, designated as UM-17, and UM-19, express a filament and produce colicin but produce no compounds toxic to the host animal and as such inhibit the growth of E. coli K88+.

L'invention concerne l'isolement de souches de E. coli produisant de la colicine à utiliser en tant que traitements probiotiques pour la prévention de diarrhées à E. coli K88+. Ces souches de E. coli, désignées par UM-3, UM-17 et UM-19, expriment un filament et produisent de la colicine, mais ne produisent pas de composés toxiques pour l'animal hôte et inhibent donc la croissance de E. coli K88+.
