A system and method for communicating over networks, particularly generally- linear networks such as a network of railcars in a railway train. The disclosed system and method include the relaying of packets which may contain plural messages down a line of nodes. Acknowledgement of the packets is obtained implicitly by listening to a subsequent relay of the packet and retransmission of the packet is effected on a diverse antenna in the event of non-acknowledgement. Message bandwidth is shared among the nodes of the system by a message priority system and by the reservation of portions of a packet for certain types of messages. Message bandwidth is also shared by the use of groups of nodes as relay participants and by periodically changing the group which is performing the relay operations.
On décrit un système et un procédé de communication entre des réseaux, en particulier des réseaux généralement linéaires tels qu'un réseau d'automotrices dans un train des chemins de fer. Lesdits système et procédé consistent à retransmettre d'amont en aval d'une ligne nodale des paquets pouvant contenir de multiples messages. L'accusé de réception desdits paquets est obtenu implicitement par l'écoute d'une retransmission subséquente du paquet, laquelle retransmission s'effectue sur une antenne en diversité en cas de non réception. La largeur de bande affectée aux messages est répartie entre les noeuds du système par un système de priorités des messages et par la réservation de parties d'un paquet pour certains types de messages. La largeur de bande affectée aux messages est également répartie par la mise en oeuvre de groupes de noeuds en tant qu'éléments actifs de la retransmission et par le remplacement périodique du groupe effectuant la retransmission.
