A computer device (110) such as a mobile phone or PDA for example, is able to access an application program or command, based upon selection of corresponding sequences of symbols (130). Such symbols (130) can be polysemous in nature and thus be associated with a plurality of different meanings depending upon other symbols (130) sequenced therewith. By utilizing polysemous symbols, a relatively large number of sequences can be developed and associated with programs and/or commands of the computer device (110), with only a relatively small number of symbols (130) displayed. In devices such as PDAs and mobile phone where display space (120) is a premium, such access to commands and programs can be invaluable.

Ces symboles (130) peuvent être de nature polysémique et peuvent donc être associés à une pluralité de significations différentes en fonction d'autres symboles (130) séquencés avec les premiers. Du fait de l'utilisation de ces symboles polysémiques, un nombre de séquences relativement grand peut être développé et associé à des programmes et/ou des commandes du dispositif informatique (110), un nombre de symboles (130) relativement petit étant affiché. Dans des dispositifs tels que des téléphones mobiles et des PDA dans lesquels l'espace d'affichage (120) est de première importance, l'accès aux programmes et aux commandes peut être précieux.
