Nodes of a computer network are found by performing, in response to input of a label, a first retrieval operation (32) to identify the address of a node matching that label, and performing, in response to an address identified by the first retrieval means, a second retrieval operation (35) to identify the addresses of further nodes matching the same label. Each node matching a given label has a data storage area for containing the addresses of other nodes matching the same label and is responsive to enquiry messages to return a message containing the addresses of the list. The second retrieval operation includes sending an enquiry message to the address identified by the first retrieval means and upon receipt of a response iteratively sending further enquiry messages to addresses contained in the response to the previous enquiry message.
Selon l'invention, des noeuds d'un réseau informatique sont trouvés, en réponse à une entrée d'une étiquette, par une première opération d'extraction (32) destinée à identifier l'adresse d'un noeud correspondant à cette étiquette, et, en réponse à une adresse identifiée par le premier moyen d'extraction, par une deuxième opération d'extraction (35) destinée à identifier les adresses d'autres noeuds correspondant à la même étiquette. Chaque noeud correspondant à une étiquette donnée présente une région de stockage de données permettant de contenir les adresses d'autres noeuds correspondant à la même étiquette, et réagit à des messages de recherche afin de renvoyer un message contenant les adresses de la liste. La deuxième opération d'extraction consiste à envoyer un message de recherche à l'adresse identifiée par le premier moyen d'extraction et, après réception d'une réponse, à envoyer de manière itérative d'autres messages de recherche à des adresses contenues dans la réponse au message de recherche précédent.
